Stormettes Run Riot in the Sun as Silsden Overpower Bassetlaw 64–18
On a blistering afternoon in Silsden, the Stormettes delivered a commanding performance to sweep aside a spirited but under‑strength Bassetlaw Bulldogs side, running in a flurry of tries in a 64–18 victory that showcased both their depth and their growing maturity as a squad.
Bassetlaw kicked off, but Silsden immediately seized control. A loose ball fell kindly to Harriet, who stunned the visitors with a devastating burst of pace and power to cross for the opener. Daisy added the first of her many assured conversions for 6–0.
A rare handling error gifted Bassetlaw possession, and they capitalised with a swift reply to narrow the gap to 6–4. But that was as close as they would come.
Silsden reasserted themselves through sharp interplay from Sofia and Ella, releasing Evelyn, who accelerated clear to score. Dee converted from distance for 12–4.
Bassetlaw again showed resilience with a well‑worked try, but Silsden’s response was straight from the training ground: a sweeping move through the entire backline before Ruby spotted space and fed Harriet for her second. Daisy converted.
Moments later came the standout moment of the match. Crisp passing and clever movement opened a channel for Maisie, who shrugged off two tackles, stepped inside two more, and powered over for a superb solo try. Daisy’s flawless kicking continued. At 24–8, Silsden were in full flow.
The introduction of fresh legs from the bench only intensified the Stormettes’ dominance. Bell, Jess, and Kiesse brought immediate physicality, and it was Harriet again who benefitted, racing down the wing to complete her hat‑trick. Dee converted for 30–8.
More changes followed, but the momentum remained firmly with Silsden. Big defensive efforts from Lucy and Nell, combined with strong carries from Bo, Loreece, and Ruby, set the platform for Kiesse to bulldoze through three defenders for a powerful try. Dee added the extras for 36–8.
One of the afternoon’s standout stories came from Lucy, whose transition from Union to League continues to gather pace. Despite twice being halted by high tackles, she refused to be deterred, eventually carving through the defence for a determined solo try. Daisy converted once more. 42–8.
Bassetlaw responded with a breakaway effort, but Silsden quickly restored control. Strong build‑up play from Loreece, Brooke, and Evelyn allowed Nell — another Union convert — to power over. Dee’s conversion stretched the lead to 48–12.
Vice‑captain Sofia, returning from a serious injury, produced a moment to savour. Weaving through defenders with trademark agility, she crossed for a richly deserved try. Daisy, unerring all afternoon, converted for 54–12.
Bassetlaw added a converted try of their own, but the Stormettes were not finished.
Late pressure from Ella, Ruby, and Bo created space for India, who had been the team’s loudest supporter from the bench. Once introduced, she made an instant impact — shrugging off one challenge, spinning out of another, and darting through the line to score.
With Daisy off the field, Maisie stepped up and calmly slotted the final conversion to seal a comprehensive 64–18 victory.
A Statement Performance –
Silsden’s display combined power, precision, and depth, with contributions from across the squad. Bassetlaw, despite the scoreline, showed flashes of quality and will undoubtedly grow into a formidable side.
